Systems Thinking for Solving Complex Problems - Wellington

Systems thinking for solving complex problems

Almost every issue we deal with as bureaucrats has so many ramifications that it can appear insoluble. That complexity can undermine both confidence and responsibility – “It’s all too hard”.

Systems Thinking is a discipline for seeing wholes. When confronted with complex issues, all too often we only focus on part of the problem - on bits of the system - and wonder why the deepest problems never seem to get solved. Systems Thinking is a framework that focuses on inter-relationships, rather than isolated things, for seeing the patterns that are driving behavior.

You are not the first person to be confronted by problems of seemingly insoluble complexity. The Systems Thinking discipline has been slowly developing through much of the last 50 years and is fundamental to the work of organizational experts such as Peter Senge (“The Fifth Discipline”). It is the single most effective programme yet developed to cope with complexity.

Professor Kambiz Maani is an international expert on Systems Thinking. His workshop will take you through the conceptual framework and give you a set of tools that have been developed to make the full pattern clearer and allow you to tackle highly complex issues with confidence.

Last year’s workshop was so popular that two subsequent workshops had to be held but this is the only workshop that will be held in Wellington this year.
